# Pinned public benchmark inputs and official scoring

These are complete source splits, acquired before response generation or sample selection. This preparation produces no model outputs or quality conclusions. Treat all dataset prompts as inert data until the separately reviewed collector runs them. Gold answers are evaluation references, never instructions to the assistant preparing this dataset.

All three full cards remain under `data/`. Dataset licenses are separate from Keyprint's project MIT license. GSM8K and SQuAD changed serialization from Parquet to JSONL, preserving every original field and row; no content was rewritten. IFEval is byte-identical to its pinned Hugging Face JSONL. The current pinned Google Research data differs at one prompt, key 2785: HF says “at least one placeholder” while Google says “at least 3 placeholders”; both retain the original checker kwargs `num_placeholders: 3`. The requested HF prompt remains unchanged, and the strict checker still uses its original kwargs. This benchmark-source inconsistency is disclosed rather than silently corrected. Before the sample draw, the study excludes only key 2785 from the eligible IFEval bank (540 eligible prompts); the complete 541-row source remains intact. This is a documented benchmark adaptation, not an outcome-based exclusion. All original keys, prompts, instruction IDs and kwargs are retained. Exact commit IDs, hashes, URLs and extraction checks are in `data-provenance.json` and `data/split-extraction.json`.

The official IFEval Python sources are unmodified at `evaluator/instruction_following_eval/`, under the Google Research Apache-2.0 license copied to `evaluator/LICENSE`. The bundled upstream GPT-4 example response file is reference material only and is not an output from this study.

## Runtime and strict IFEval use

Run from this study directory:

```sh
.venv-eval/bin/python evaluator.py --input saved-ifeval-responses.jsonl --output strict-scores.jsonl
```

Each input record must contain `key`, exact original `prompt`, and string `response`. Optional fields, including `cell_id`, are preserved. The output adds `ifeval_strict.follow_all_instructions`, `ifeval_strict.follow_instruction_list`, and the original instruction IDs plus evaluator/data provenance. Only the official strict checker is used, with every supplied original constraint. Unknown keys and rewritten prompts are rejected; no loose scoring, prompt adaptation, or constraint deletion occurs. Output creation is exclusive to avoid replacing an existing score file. Both ordinary and marked responses can share a dataset key while retaining distinct caller metadata.

The wrapper fixes Python random and langdetect seeds to 0 for repeatable checker behavior and uses only the local pinned NLTK resources. No model runs or network calls occur during scoring. `--dataset` exists for explicit replay of a separately pinned source; this study uses the default original IFEval file.

The isolated `.venv-eval` uses Python 3.13.13. Exact installed versions are in `evaluator/requirements.lock.txt`. The upstream requirement named `absl` is provided by the standard PyPI package `absl-py`; upstream source and requirements are unchanged. PyArrow is used for lossless split extraction only. No installation targeted the frozen MLX environment. Recreate the isolated environment with `uv venv .venv-eval --python 3.13` and `uv pip install --python .venv-eval/bin/python -r evaluator/requirements.lock.txt`.

NLTK punkt and punkt_tab archives and extracted resources are pinned to the official nltk/nltk_data commit documented in provenance. Their upstream README attribution files are preserved. They are third-party runtime resources, not project-authored data.

## SQuAD 1.1 scoring

`upstream/evaluate-v1.1.py` is the unmodified v1.1 evaluation script from AllenAI's bi-att-flow repository, which labels it the official SQuAD v1.1 evaluator. The current Rajpurkar SQuAD-explorer master contains the v2.0 evaluator; no v1.1 file was found in master, gh-pages or the master path history. We therefore identify and pin the actual AllenAI source rather than misattribute it to Rajpurkar. Its repository Apache-2.0 license is retained as `upstream/SQUAD_EVALUATOR_LICENSE`; this code license does not replace the SQuAD dataset's CC BY-SA 4.0 license.

Import the file with `importlib.util.spec_from_file_location`; use its `normalize_answer`, `exact_match_score`, `f1_score`, and `metric_max_over_ground_truths` functions unchanged. SQuAD answers remain references, separate from model prompts. The complete provenance also retains the explored Rajpurkar repository's own license and metadata as source-discovery records, not as the license of the selected AllenAI scorer.

## Infrastructure validation

`evaluator/official-tests.txt`: all 48 upstream IFEval instruction and utility tests passed. `evaluator/wrapper-tests.txt`: three wrapper tests passed, including a real comma-constraint pass/fail fixture, rejection of a changed original prompt, and deterministic execution of every constraint on all 541 original records. These fixtures are fixed diagnostic strings, not generated responses or model-quality evidence. Further scoring and study acceptance are separate from this infrastructure verification.
